The concept
The Solitaire du Figaro has been held annually since 1970 and is considered the most demanding single-handed offshore regatta on the Atlantic coast. The Classe Figaro Beneteau is the international reference class for single-handed and double-handed ocean racing. The races are sailed according to the principle of a strict one-design class, which means that the skipper's skills in strategy, navigation, weather analysis and endurance are the only factors that determine success.
The route
The race lasts for two weeks. The race area, which covers the English Channel, the French Atlantic coast and the Bay of Biscay, makes the Solitaire du Figaro a varied challenge. The different currents, coastal areas and weather systems make this race a complete test and demand everything from the skippers.
The boat
The Figaro Bénéteau 3 is a 9.75-metre-long and 3.40-metre-wide offshore racer. Designed by VPLP, it is the first series-produced one-design boat with foils. Strict class rules ensure that the class remains one-design. Every detail in the preparation of the boat counts when it comes to generating that decisive tenth of a knot advantage.
